v     Bulletin Board Decorating! During the last week of October all classes will design Halloween decorations for the wall outside their classroom. Classes will start decorating on the 26th. Judging will be on the 30th. The winning class will have 30 minutes of extra recess as their prize!

v     The student council is donating $100. to the Breast Cancer Organization since it is Breast Cancer Awareness month.

From the Office:

No toys of any kind should be brought to school. This includes stuffed animals, trading cards, gadgets, etc. These things get lost (sometimes left on the bus) and the teacher’s are spending too much time dealing with the upset children and trying to find the missing items. (Refer to Parent Handbook pg. 13, “Toys, Valuables at School”)Thank you!

PTO ITEMS:

HARVEST NIGHTS AUCTION – A Huge Success!

·  The Auction committee would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all those that contributed to our Auction that was held Saturday Oct. 17th at the Sheraton Tara.  We had over 100 people in attendance!  Thanks to our parents, teachers and staff, students, friends and local businesses that donated to this wonderful event, it was a fabulous evening enjoyed by all, as well as a very successful fundraiser for our school.  Thank you to all our volunteers that helped with the event, either with set-up Saturday afternoon or doing different tasks throughout the evening!

·  The numbers are still being finalized with a few outstanding expenses, but we are happy to say that the event raised about $21,000 for our school!

·  Congratulations to Joanne Marian, who was the winner of the wine tower; Natasha Ashe who picked the lucky raffle bag with the Tiffany Necklace; and all our lucky winners that went home with a beautiful Fall Pashmena!

·  For those of you who were the lucky winning bidder for the different outings with our teachers, Principal for the day, etc., your names have been give to the teachers and Mrs. Mungovan, and they will be in touch with you to schedule those events in the coming weeks.

·  In the next week we will be posting some of the business that very generously donated to our Auction on the PTO Bulletin Board.  Please take a look at the list and be sure to thank them for supporting our school when you may be using their businesses.  We will also be posting the information on the class gift donations and what they sold for at the auction.  The room Parents have been given this information, so they will be sending that to their classes.

The Ecole du Village Partnership: Many thanks to Mr. Lucien for visiting Saint Bridget School a few weeks ago and introducing our students to the students at Ecole du Village in Haiti through his presentation and pictures.  Our penny drive is going well so far! Thank you for your participation! We have many wonderful "exchange" activities planned for both schools over the course of the year. In the meantime, please visit the Ecole du Village website with your children to learn a bit more about our partner school at www.ecoleduvillage.org. Thank you!

Junior Achievement - Our school will once again participate in the JA program for grades 4-8 this year.  It is time to send out a "call for volunteers".  If you are not familiar with the program you may visit their website at www.ja.org .  From their website: "Junior Achievement is the world’s largest organization dedicated to educating students in grades K-12 about entrepreneurship, work readiness, and financial literacy through experiential, hands-on programs."  In short, we ask volunteer parents to come into classrooms and using a ready made "kit" provided by JA, guide the students through the program.  The teacher stays in the classroom, but the volunteer runs the program.  Parents and students alike have loved the program and the unique opportunity it presents.  To volunteer you do not need any teaching experience just enthusiasm.  The kits have everything you will need.  The time commitment is approximately 30 min prep time and 45 min in the classroom.  The program will start in January and will run 5 weeks for 4th and 5th grade, and 6 weeks for the middle school.  If you are interested in volunteering please contact Mary Ann Sager at masager5@yahoo.com or 508-872-4989 as soon as possible.

News from the Admissions Office:

From the Health Office: Fruits and vegetables are an important part of any healthy diet. If your family is eating fewer than 5 fruits or vegetables per day try increasing the families’ intake by one more for the next month.
