Principal's Monthly Letter - November

November 5, 2007

Dear Parents/Guardians:

We have had such a beautiful autumn season.  The days have been unseasonably warm and the Red Sox won the World Series. Our days are shorter now, leaves are falling from the trees, and we’ve seen some frost on the pumpkin.  It’s time to celebrate the beauty of God’s earth.

On November 15th , St. Bridget School is hosting an Open House for prospective families and I am asking for your assistance.  I need you to spread the “Good News” about St. Bridget School.  Tell all who will listen that our education is second to none, and that we are a Catholic elementary and middle school that teaches Christian values and moral decision making in a safe, nurturing environment.  Tell your friends and neighbors -- soccer, hockey, baseball, football, lacrosse, and dance class friends – to visit our school and see for themselves what great a school we are.  During Catholic Schools Week in January we will launch our 50th Anniversary celebration.  So tell one and all – St. Bridget School is alive and well and still  living in Framingham!

November is proving to be a busy month with so many wonderful opportunities for our students.

Grandparents/Special Persons Day will be celebrated on Friday, November 9th.  If a grandparent is not able to attend, perhaps a special friend, relative or neighbor would like to visit with your child in his/her classroom.  Our morning will begin at 8:30 am with refreshments along with musical presentations and poetry readings.

Visit schedule:                    8:30 – 9:30am    Grades K1-4

                                              9:45-10:45 am   Grades 5-8

Report Cards for the First Trimester will be mailed home on November 20th.  Parent conferences will be held on November 29th from noon to 4:00 pm and again on December 6th from 3:00 to 7:00 pm.  I hope every parent has secured a time and date to visit with their child’s teacher to ensure stability, cooperation, and continuity between home and school.

Did You Know:

  1. Our eighth graders participated in a class retreat day on October 19th in Boylston.
  2. K1 is learning sign language.
  3. At our professional day on October 5th, the teachers participated in a workshop given by Dr. Bill Buckreis, Chairperson of the education department at Framingham State College.  The topic was making connections in math – geometry and measurement.
  4. On October 20th, our fourth grade teacher Laurie Leger, became the beautiful bride of Jay Woodworth.  They were married by Fr. Mike in St. Bridget’s Church.  Our school choir, under the direction of Mrs. Withee, sang for this joyous occasion.
  5. This month St. Bridget School is launching its first Annual Fund.  You, along with the entire St. Bridget family, will be receiving an opportunity to give.  Your gift will represent a tangible vote of confidence in our school and will be accepted until June 30th.
  6. Recently, our Spanish teacher, Mrs. Barrett was invited by some St. Bridget graduates to attend their induction into the National Honor Society.  The inductees from Framingham High School are: Mark M, Christine T, Laura, and Brittany D.  At Ashland High the newest NHS members are Allison Waterhouse and Amy Blakemore.  Also, from Marian High School, Lindsay G and Mary H were inducted as well.  Congratulations!!
  7. As an outreach project the seventh grade helped to bake breads, cakes, and muffins to support the Spread the Bread organization.
  8. The eighth graders have begun preparing for their upcoming Polynesian Dinner on November 27th.  Details will be forthcoming.
  9. The 5th and 6th graders returned from a wonderful educational week at Nature’s Classroom in Ocean Park, Maine.  The weather was great, the Nature’s Classroom teachers were very knowledgeable, and classes were fantastic!  Every student experienced independence, developed endurance, and took part in team building, in addition to hands-on learning sessions.  This was an outstanding experience for all our students and for the Nature’s Classroom teachers who said our students were the BEST!  Thank you from the students to all who made it possible for the opportunity to go!
  10. Grade 3 visited Plimouth Plantation, Mayflower II, and the Wampanoag Village.  This living museum told the students the story of the lives of the Wampanoag Native People and the English colonists at Plymouth, MA in the 17th century.  The students also completed a thematic unit on Charlotte’s Web.  They will culminate the unit with projects, a Reader’s Theater and a Charlotte’s Web party.
  11. Grade 6 is going to the Museum of Fine Arts on November 14th as a culmination to their study of Ancient Egypt. Grade 8 will be going to the Lowell Mills on November 28th to enhance their study of the Industrial Revolution and the reading of the novel “Liddie”.
  12.  Ms. Ablondi is engaged to be married.  Congratulations!!!!
  13. Our second graders will bake and donate breads to the St. Bridget parishioners              who are homebound in time for Thanksgiving.  This is such a rewarding outreach project for these children as they prepare for Reconciliation in January.

On Thanksgiving Day please begin your day with Mass or a prayer of Thanksgiving.  Share with your children the wonders of God’s bounty and loving ways.  We are all so fortunate to have a home, food and clothes to wear.  Our children need to be made aware that there are so many in our world who do not have these basic needs.

On behalf of the St. Bridget School Staff I send you blessings and peace as we prepare for Thanksgiving.

God Bless You,

Mrs. Roseanne Mungovan
Principal
