Technology Program

The goal of the computer education program at Saint Bridget School is to develop knowledge of computer hardware, office productivity software, and an understanding of the application of computers in society. Saint Bridget School provides computer education to students in grades three through eight once a week in a lab setting.

Children begin to explore typing skills in grade three. Students in grades three, four, and five learn to utilize Microsoft Office applications for classroom projects. There are also various typing, graphics, and presentation applications used to provide additional computer related skills.

In grades six, seven, and eight, the students enhance their skills by integrating projects from other academic areas into the more advanced Office topics in word processing, spreadsheets, multi-media presentations, and database concepts. These skills are brought together in small group and class-wide projects that also teach students basic but vital collaboration and organizational techniques.

Grades six, seven, and eight gain hands-on experience with web site creation. The eighth grade expands these same skills to "publish" their own memory book at the end of the school year in both print and web page formats.

The computer lab is comprises 20 desktop computers running Microsoft Windows XP and Microsoft Office applications. The computer lab has its own filtered Internet access. In addition, each classroom is equipped with a computer dedicated for teacher use. All teachers have Internet and email access to enhance professional development, curriculum-related research, and communications between home and school. Most classrooms have a computer dedicated for student use and Internet access. In addition, Saint Bridget School operates a web site for the parents and public.
