School Hours and School Year Questions

What is Saint Bridget School's school year?

Saint Bridget School follows the school-closing schedule for inclement weather or emergency situations as outlined by the Framingham Public Schools.

What are Saint Bridget School's hours?

Drop Off and Dismissal Questions

How does drop off work? For K1 and Kindergartners?

Morning drop-off goes from 7:40 am until 8am. To drop off, enter the St. B parking lot from the Route 9 access ramp, join the line of cars in the left lane. The line will turn to the right at the church, and Mr. R-T will assist the kids out of the car. Mrs. Mungovan and other staff are also there to keep the kids moving, to direct them across the bus line when it is safe, and to ensure they enter the school. For the first few weeks the K1 and Kindergarten teachers are outside to greet their students, gather them from the drop off and bus lines, and then, proceed into their classrooms.

What happens if I am late for drop off?

If you are dropping your child off after 8:00am, you must escort your child to the main door (door A) of the school building and go up to the front desk. Mrs. Feeney, the secretary, will write out a tardy slip for them and they can then proceed to their classroom.

What time is dismissal? What time is dismissal on 1/2 days?

Dismissal starts between 2:10 and 2:15 p.m., immediately following the afternoon prayer. Riders (kids who go home by car) are dismissed first, then the children riding by bus are called by grade to go outside and join their bus line. On rainy days, the bus riders are called as the busses arrive.

On half-days (a.k.a. early dismissal) dismissal time is at 11:00am, and the students are dismissed the same way as on regular days.

K1 students and Kindergartners wear nametags showing their bus number for the first few weeks. Note that K1 students may only ride the bus if they have an older sibling on the bus. If a K1 student is riding home on the bus, then the older sibling must pick him/her up in the K1 room, take him/her to their classroom, and they wait together to be called for the bus.

K1 AM class is dismissed at 11:00am. Pickup is from 11:00 -11:10am. Parents park their cars and walk to door B (or the playground, if sunny) to pick up their children.

How does pick up work?

When picking up your child at dismissal time, park your car in the left most lanes, near the church, close to Route 9. When the riders are dismissed, children in grades K1 through 1st grade exit the building at Door C and wait by the building for parents to pick them up there. For the older children, staff will guide them in front of the waiting busses and to the side of the church. Parents come forward to gather their children. All cars are expected to exit in front of the church to not disrupt the bus line. Staff members remain with the children until all children have been picked up. If the parent is late the child(ren) is brought back into the school building until the parent arrives.

Bus Questions

Do I need to call Transportation to have my child picked up by the bus? When will I find out about bus schedules? When do they begin coming?

Only students from Framingham are able to take the Framingham Public School busses. You do not need to call to be added to the list; The Saint Bridget School Admissions Office sends the names of all Framingham students (K and above) to the Framingham Public Schools Transportation Office, 508-626-9179. K1 students may only ride the bus with an older sibling.

The bus schedules appear on the Framingham Public Schools website sometime between August 15th and August 31st, depending on the first day of school. The school does not decide the bus stops; those are all determined by the FPS Transportation Office. The busses will begin on the first day of school. Note: K1 and K have a half-day (dismissal at 11:00) on their first day of school and you will need to pick your child up.

Can my child go home on a friend's bus?

The FPS Transportation Office does not allow a child to ride a different bus than their usual one. If your child is going to a friend's house, they must have a note indicating that they will be picked up by their friend's parent/guardian as a rider.

Uniform Questions

Does my child need to wear their uniform for Visiting Day or Orientation (for K1/K)?

No, uniforms are not required until the first day of class.

Should my child wear his/her gym uniform to school or change at school?

Students wear their gym uniform to school on their gym day. During the first week of school, the students will find out from their teacher their various "special" days, including gym, library, music, Mass, art, computer (Grades 3-8). (See dress code sheets for further information on gym uniforms.)

Do sneakers need to be completely white?

Sneakers should be mostly white, have non-scuff soles, no lights and no sounds.

Is there a place to find some used uniforms?

There are many used uniform items and they are located in the used uniform closet on the 2nd floor of the eastern wing of the building, across from grade 3 classrooms. You can buy used items for $3 each or 4 for $10. You will need to check with Mrs. Feeney (front desk) to unlock the closet.

Snack and Lunch Questions

Am I supposed to send a snack or drink with my child for the school day?

Children of all grades have a time for snack in the morning. The snack can be included in the child's lunchbox. Juice boxes are only suggested for grades K1 and K (no Capri Sun because of the possibility of puncturing the drink bag, no glass as well). The children can bring water bottles for grades 1 and up if they want something to drink with their snack.

What are the hot lunches? When do they start? Can I pay for the hot lunches ahead of time?

Hot lunches are organized by a wonderful collection of volunteer parents who are always looking for a few more volunteers. (Consider stopping by to help sometime.) Hot lunches usually start a few weeks into the school year. You can pay for the lunches ahead of time by purchasing a lunch "card". More information will come home regarding the lunch card and the lunch menu in the first few weeks of school.

The current price for hot lunch is between $1.75 and $2.75, depending on the portion size.

Staff Questions

Is there a full-time school nurse?

Yes, Mrs. Kane and Mrs. Connolly are our two nurses. Between the two of them, there is nursing coverage every day for the whole school day.

Who is Mr. R-T?

Mr. R-T is the facilities manager at the school. He is in charge of keeping the physical plant of the building running. He also is outside, rain, wind, snow or shine to get the children out of the cars and keep the line moving.

Extended Day Questions

Is Extended Day offered on an hourly basis or just daily?

Extended Day is offered on a daily basis, whether two, three, four or five afternoons a week. Additional information is listed on the school web site. Questions should be directed to Mrs. Vicki Peterson at (508) 875-0181 x 224.

Miscellaneous Questions

Do the students attend Mass every week? Can I attend the Mass?

All grades attend the regular 9:00am Mass in the downstairs church, once a week, unless a funeral Mass is scheduled on their particular day. You may always attend this daily Mass. The K1/K grades don't start attending Mass until they have been in school for a few weeks and have had a chance to visit the church outside of Mass. There is an all-school Mass or Prayer Service once a month. You are always welcome to attend.

What happens on Visiting Day?

On Visiting Day (before the first day of school) you are able to see your children's classrooms and meet their teachers. You will also collect a PTO packet of information. It is a good day to drop off supplies to your child(ren)'s classrooms. You may come anytime during the Visiting Day hours. Uniforms are not expected for Visiting Day.

What are the weekly memos?

The weekly memo is distributed electronically through email every Monday. Parents may request a paper copy of the weekly memo, which will be distributed through the school mail and come home with your youngest or only child at the school. The weekly memo contains important information about changes, additions, or reminders to the school calendar, hot lunches, PTO programs, etc. It is helpful to keep old memos for reference. The memo may also be found on the school website.

Additional information on many of these questions can be found in the Parent Handbook, which is mailed to parents over the summer.
